Grahame Hardie is Professor of Cellular Signalling in the College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee, Scotland, UK. He is best known for being the person who defined and named the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), and established its role as a cellular energy sensor. He is a Fellow of three UK national academies: the Royal Society, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and the Academy of Medical Sciences. In 2008 he was awarded the Rolf Luft prize of the Karolinska Institute, Sweden, which is awarded to a single individual for their contributions to endocrinology and metabolism.
